DIY Christmas Decorations To Fill Your Home With Whimsy Wonder

And the grandkids were nestled all snug in their bed, as visions of grandma’s house danced in their heads. Your family knows that the best place to be at Christmas is at your house, but these delightfully darling DIY Christmas decorations will transform your home from grandma’s house (which is clearly already pretty awesome) to a winter wonderland filled with whimsy, wonder, and cheer.

Regal Ornaments

These beautiful sphere-shaped ornaments not only make your own tree dazzle, but they will make wonderful gifts that friends and family won’t believe you made yourself.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Foam balls any size
  • Straight pins
  • A pretty iridescent fabric
  • Scissors
  • Ribbon
  • Hot glue

Begin by cutting fabric into two- inch squares. Fold over each top corner to create a triangle. Pin each side of the top corners into the foam ball. Place each triangle beside the other, overlapping enough to cover straight pin heads until the entire ornament is covered. Finish by hot gluing a looped ribbon to the top.

Gingerbread-Men Family Garland

This sweet little garland made out of paper gingerbread-men looks darling from atop the mantle and can even add a sprinkle of charm to your stairwell. Design each paper gingerbread-man to look like a different member of your family. Get the grandkids in on this one for an afternoon of giggles.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Golden-brown cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Various embellishments
  • Markers
  • Tiny crafting paper clips
  •  Glue or hot glue
  •  Twine

Cut simple gingerbread shapes from the golden-brown cardstock. Use markers and any embellishments you have to decorate each cookie to look like a family member. Clip each gingerbread man on to the twine a few inches apart from each other. Tie a loop on each end of the garland for easy suspension.

Elf Tree Decorating

Elves love to get in on the decorating fun—especially when you aren’t looking! This whimsical DIY idea adds wonder by the sleigh full to your Christmas tree for a holiday your grandchildren will always remember.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Elf Magic Elves
  • Recycled jewelry boxes
  • Wrapping paper
  • Garland
  • Stack of books
  • Floral wire

String up sparkling garlands that you’ve either bought or made yourself. Place one of your Elves at the top of the tree to help string the garland. Then, place another Elf on a stack of books (which are an Elf’s favorite makeshift ladder!) at the bottom of the tree. Wrap small spare jewelry boxes. Glue floral wire to the bottom of each box and tie them to the tree branches. You can even leave the boxes empty so the Elves can come and leave gifts for your grandchildren.

DIY Christmas decorations with children can make the holidays an even more memorable time. As you trim the tree and celebrate with those you love most, Elf Magic wishes you a very merry and magical Christmas from our corner of the North Pole to yours.
